Special entrance qualification for university studies ("admission statement")

Your citizenship is from a non-EU/EEA country? And your school leaving certificate/degree has been issued in a non-EU/EEA country?

  • In Austria you may only study degree programmes that you would also be allowed to study in  the country that issued your school leaving certificate/degree.
  • A university accredited in the country where your school leaving certificae/degree was issued has to confirm that you have the right to begin this programme in this country (we call it "special entrance qualification" or "admission statement").
  • Applications for other programmes will be rejected if the required special entrance qualification is missing.

For example:

You are Iranian, have got an Iranian school leaving certificate and want to study Mathematics. Then you need a confirmation from an accredited Iranian university saying you are allowed to study Mathematics in Iran (the Islamic Azad University is not accepted!).

You are Mongolian, have attended secondary school in Russia and want to study Business Administration. Then you need a confirmation from a Russian university saying you are allowed to study Business Administration there.

The certificate should not be older than a year and has to include:

  • your name,
  • date of issue,
  • the exact name of the degree programme  (the name of the faculty is not sufficient!) and
  • the confirmation that you fulfil all requirements to study the degree programme in the country that issued your documents.

You get the certificate of special qualification for university studies:

  1. directly at the recognised/accredited university or
  2. via the central examination authority (e.g. in China or Turkey) or
  3. by passing an entrance examination.

If you currently study the degree programme in your country, it is sufficient to provide a confirmation of enrolment of the current or next semester/academic year (a confirmation of enrolment of the Islamic Azad University in Iran is not accepted!).

Attention!

From 2 January 2018 onwards the University of Vienna does not accept a special entrance qualification for university studies issued by the Azad University in Iran anymore!

You can use this sample (except 2. and 3. from the above list):

Exemptions of the special qualification for university studies
