Application with secondary-school leaving certificate and citizenship from an EU/EEA country/CH and proficiency in German

 

Your secondary-school leaving certificate and your citizenship are from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you have knowledge of German at level B2 or higher and want to study a bachelor/diploma programme with an entrance exam procedure/aptitude assessment?

The registration for the entrance exam procedure is possible without a secondary-school leaving certificate. Upload all required documents for the admission directly after you get them.

When completing the personal enrolment for the degree programme, the secondary-school leaving certificate and a proof of German proficiency at level C1 (or higher) is required. These documents do not yet have to be available on the day of the written entrance exam.

 Required documents

You need the following documents

as a JPEG or PNG file:

  • Your passport or personal ID card

as seperate PDF files:

  • Your original secondary-school leaving certificate (all pages!) and a translation by a court sworn translator if it was not issued in German or English. The registration for the entrance exam procedure is possible without a secondary-school leaving certificate.
  • Your proof of German proficiency at level C1 or higher (not required if you have a secondary-school leaving certificate of a German speaking country)
  • Proof of supplementary exams if necessary (like Latin or Greek etc.) 

Your steps in the admission procedure

 

Step 1: Online Self-Assessment

As a first step in the entrance exam procedure, complete the Online Self-Assessment within the registration period. After completion, you will receive your OSA code. If you have it sent to you via e-mail, this code will be centrally stored. 

There is no OSA for the bachelor programmes Psychology and Sport Science.

 

Step 2: Preparation of required documents

Scan all required documents and create PDF files. Use an online tool of your choice to merge various pages of one document into one PDF file (f.e. your secondary-school leaving certificate and its translation). All your files have to be easily readable. Please check the quality of your files before uploading them.

If you do not have your school-leaving certificate yet, please specify this in your application. This way, you can upload it afterwards.

 

Step 3: Application for admission in u:space

  1. Activate your u:account in u:space within the registration period. You will need this account during your studies at the University of Vienna.
  2. Log in to u:space, complete the registration and select the degree programme of your choice. Upload the required documents.
    • If you do not yet have your secondary-school leaving certificate, enter the corresponding information. This way, you will be able to register for the entrance exam procedure and upload your secondary-school leaving certificate afterwards.
    If applicable, select "Yes, my German knowledge is sufficient. I want to participate in the entrance exam procedure for the academic year 2019/20".
  3. Enter the OSA code.
  4. Select "continue to submission", check if the data you provided (especially your e-mail address) is correct and then click on "pay and submit application". Pay the examination fee of 50 Euro via credit card or eps online payment (only possible if you have an Austrian bank account).

You are registered for the entrance exam procedure when having submitted your application. Please check the status of your application!

a) You have already uploaded your secondary-school leaving certificate. The status of your application in u:space is "submitted".

b) You have not uploaded any secondary-school leaving certificate. The status of your application in u:space is "amend". The status of your secondary-school leaving certificate is "inadequate". This means that you can upload your secondary-school leaving certificate afterwards. Complete the amendment of your application by selecting "submit application". 

A confirmation of registration will be sent to the e-mail address you provided in u:space. You will be informed about the entrance exam procedure on a regular basis. Check the spam folder of your mailbox frequently and add the e-mail address of the University of Vienna to your address book, so you do not miss any important information.

 

Step 4: Entrance exam procedure

Continue with the remaining steps of the entrance exam procedure of the degree programme of your choice.

 

Step 5: Personal admission to the degree programme

A few weeks after the written entrance exam you will be notified by e-mail whether you have been successful. Without exception the admission to the degree programme is only possible if you participated successfully in the entrance exam procedure/aptitude assessment and also fulfil the general admission requirements for a bachelor/diploma programme at the University of Vienna.

If you were successful, go to the Admission Office during the admission period with the required documents in their original version or as notarised copies (opening hours).

You have to do this personally, as your identity has to be verified. Representation by third parties is not possible!

 

Step 6: Payment of the tuition fee/students' union fee

You may pay with your ATM or credit card (only Visa or Mastercard) when completing the admission procedure at the Admission Office. You are admitted to a degree programme as soon as the prescribed fee is registered as "received on" in u:space.

 

What comes next?

As soon as your fee is registered as "received on" in u:space (Financial Matters > Tuition fee/students' union fee), you can print your student documents (i.e. student record sheet and confirmation of enrolment) by clicking on Personal Matters > My Documents. You can also order your student ID, the u:card.

After the admission you can plan your semester and register for courses. The respective course registration periods can be found in u:find and u:space.
